Rejection of a Clemency Petition
Rejection of Fritz Hoffmann’s appeal for clemency.
Condemned prisoners could petition for clemency. These appeals had to be rejected for the death sentence to be enforced. Roland Freisler, at that point an undersecretary of state in the Reich Ministry of Justice, rejected Fritz Hoffmann's appeal on June 1, 1942. Hoffmann had been sentenced to death by the “People's Court” for Communist activities.
