Hermann Stöhr

The Protestant Hermann Stöhr was a courageous critic of National Socialist church policy. He called for his church to include victims of political persecution in its prayers and to exercise practical solidarity with Jews. After being conscripted to the Wehrmacht in 1939, he refused military service for reasons of conscience. He was sentenced to death by the Reich Court Martial as a conscientious objector, and beheaded in Plötzensee prison on June 21. 1940.
